It's the newest instalment in one of gaming’s biggest sagas. Gears 5 has finally arrived and features one of the most in-depth and addictive campaigns so far in the series. The game landed earlier this month on Xbox One and PC. If you've yet to pick it up, here's what you need to know...

The Story

The main story arc of Gears 5 picks up where the 4th instalment left off. The Xbox website reads: "The world is crumbling. The swarm has corrupted the coalition’s robot army and is descending upon human cities. With danger closing in, Kait Diaz breaks away to uncover her connection to the enemy and discovers the true danger to Sera – herself."

Game Modes

Campaign – The campaign follows the main storyline of the game as outlined above. We can expect some intense gameplay along with twists and turns as Kait discovers herself.Escape – Escape is a new co-op game mode, in which you and other gamers can take part in in a three-player suicide squad that enters hives and takes them down from within.Versus – With over 10 game types, players can battle against each other in new and classic maps from the series.Horde – Players must survive the Horde by working together, building defences, collecting power and using new hero abilities. Below is a video from Gamescom 2019 that showcases some Horde Gameplay…

Map Builder – In the map builder game mode, players can create their own custom hive escapes, share them with friends and challenge them to come out on top.
