A Life In Games #1 – Dee, Marketing Manager
What’s your name?
Sarah.
What’s your role at Venom Gaming?
Officially, I’m the Customer Services Manager but I also work in product development and marketing.
What does your typical day look like?
In the mornings I go through all of the marketplaces we sell on, such asAmazon and eBay to name a couple, and respond to customer messages and check emails. Depending on the time of the year and how busy we are that can take up the majority of my day.
Other times I’m involved with researching product ideas, inspecting returned stock to see if there’s any trends for why items are returned and what we can do to improve the products.
I’m also involved in creating instructional videos and contacting influencers to partner with to boost our name and products, among other things.
What’s your earliest memory of gaming?
Playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the SEGA in my Nan’s playroom with my brother and arguing over who got to play as Michaelangelo.
What’s your favourite game of all time?
This is a tough one when there’s so many to choose from, but I’d have to say either The Sims or Red Dead Redemption 2 (couldn’t get much different). I’ve sunk countless hours into the Sims franchise but there’s nothing quite like exploring the expansive map as Arthur in the Wild West.
What game reminds you of your childhood?
It has to be Pokémon! From the GameBoy to collecting the cards to the animeI was captivated with it as a child.
What game is your happy place?
I don’t think I’ve had a constant “happy place” game for a while, and it changes all the time depending on my circumstances. Like a lot of people over the first lockdown I would have answered this question with Animal Crossing New Horizons, currently it’s the Sims 4 – who knows what’s next?
If you could make any game, what game would it be?
An open-world, third person adventure game set in the Walking Dead universe. As much as I enjoyed the Tell Tale Walking Dead games, I’d love a game with a rich environment and story I could explore - essentially Red Dead 2 with zombies!
What’s your must-have gaming accessory?
A headset! I never used to bother with headsets, but my brother hassled me to try and I’ve not looked back since - the immersion you get with a headset is second to none.
And finally – PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo?
PlayStation all day, every day. Nintendo is a close runner up since the Nintendo Switch came out, but my heart belongs to PlayStation.
